Denver City Government Closed Monday, May 29

DENVER – Most City and County of Denver offices will be closed Monday, May 29 for the Memorial Day holiday.

Due to the holiday, the Mayor’s Office, City Council offices, Clerk and Recorder’s Office, Auditor’s Office and most city agencies will be closed. Partner entities such as Denver Health will remain open Monday, May 29, as will agencies that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, such as Denver International Airport. Sworn members of the Denver Sheriff, Police and Fire departments and other emergency responders will report for duty Monday, May 29 as well.

Please see below for specific information on how city functions will be affected during these closures:

3-1-1 INFORMATION LINE, DENVERGOV.ORG AND DENVER 8 TV

3-1-1, the city’s information line for non-emergency services, will be closed Monday, May 29. Service requests may be to denvergov.org and clicking on “Report an Issue” or at denvergov.org/denver311. Programming will continue on Denver 8 TV. Visit www.Denver8.TV for schedule details.

ANIMAL SHELTER & ANIMAL PROTECTION

The Denver Animal Shelter will be closed on Monday, May 29. The Night Drop kennels will be open and can be accessed to the left of the front doors if a lost pet is found while the shelter is closed. Animal Protection Officers will be available to respond to emergencies through 911.

AUDITOR’S OFFICE

The Auditor’s Office will be closed Monday, May 29.

BUILDING AND ZONING PERMITS AND INSPECTION

SBuilding and Zoning permitting will be closed Monday, May 29. No inspections will be scheduled that day. Community Planning and Development public counter is currently available by appointment only for customers who would like to meet with staff in person to discuss building or zoning code questions. Permits are no longer issued at the counter. All projects applying for permits must use e-permits.

CITY COUNCIL

All Denver City Council offices will be closed Monday, May 29 due to the holiday. There are no council or committee meetings the week of May 29. The next regular meeting of City Council will be Monday, June 5.

CITY-OWNED GOLF FACILITIES

Golf courses will be open Monday, May 29, weather permitting.

CLERK & RECORDER’S OFFICE

The Office of the Clerk and Recorder – including the Denver Elections Division, marriage licensing, the Public Trustee, Records and Recording – will be closed Monday, May 29. The Voter Service and Polling Center located in the Wellington Webb Municipal Building will be closed Monday, May 29. Voters are encouraged to return their ballot to one of the 43 secure, 24-hour drop boxes located around the city which will remain open through the holiday closure.

COURTS

The Denver County Court will be closed Monday, May 29. The Denver County Court will not be hosting an Outreach Court session at the Denver Rescue Mission on Monday, May 29 due to the holiday. All state-operated courts, including the Denver District Court, Juvenile Court and Probate Court located in the City and County Building, will be closed Monday, May 29.

DENVER ARTS & VENUES

Outdoor spaces and the Red Rocks Trading Post at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre will be open Monday, May 29. The Red Rocks Visitor Center and Ship Rock Grille are currently closed for construction until further notice. The McNichols Civic Center Building will be closed for the holiday. DENVER MOTOR VEHICLE TITLE AND REGISTRATION

Denver Motor Vehicle Title and Registration will be closed Monday, May 29 and will not be processing mail or taking phone transactions. For vehicle renewal online, visit the Denver Motor Vehicle website or mydmv.colorado.gov.

DENVER HUMAN SERVICES

Denver Human Services will be closed Monday, May 29, however child and adult protection emergency response teams and telephone hotlines will be taking and responding to reports. To report suspected child abuse or neglect call the Denver county child protection hotline at 720-944-3000, or the statewide hotline 1-844-CO-4-KIDS (1-844-264-5437) from anywhere in Colorado. To report elder abuse for an adult 70 years and older or the abuse, neglect or exploitation of an adult with an intellectual or developmental disability, call the Denver Police Department at 720-913-2000. For all other adult protection calls, please call 720-944-4DHS (4347).

DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & INFRASTRUCTURE PERMIT COUNTERS

DOTI permit and the Right Of Way Enforcement offices will be closed Monday, May 29. To apply for a right of way permit, visit Denver’s online permitting and licensing center at: denvergov.org/AccelaCitizenAccess.  

EXCISE & LICENSES

Excise and Licenses’ customer service counters and offices are currently accepting in-person applications via appointment and walk ins, and will be closed Monday, May 29. To avoid any wait, customers are encouraged to schedule an appointment or submit an application via email. Learn more about submitting an application via email.

LIBRARIES

All Denver Public Library locations will be closed Monday, May 29 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Residents can still use many of the library's resources even when the buildings are closed.

OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will be closed Monday, May 29. The on-call duty officer will maintain an on-going situational awareness around all activities in Denver over the holiday weekend. The agency remains activated, supporting the city as we respond to the migrant sheltering incident. OEM remains prepared to activate should any large-scale emergencies or disasters occur.

OFFICE OF HUMAN RESOURCES TALENT ACQUISITION TESTING AND NEW HIRE ONBOARDING 

The Office of Human Resources Talent Acquisition Testing Center will be closed Monday, May 29. Applicants will still be able to search and apply for open positions at denvergov.org/jobs. The Talent Acquisition front desk will also be closed Monday, May 29. New Hire Onboarding assistance will resume on Tuesday, May 30.

OFFICE OF THE MEDICAL EXAMINER (CORONER)

The Office of the Medical Examiner (Coroner) will be closed Monday, May 29. Office staff will be available to respond to emergencies.

PARKING – ON-STREET PAID PARKING AND MAGISTRATE

Parking meters are free on Sundays and on recognized city holidays, and will be free Monday, May 29. Drivers are reminded to observe the time restrictions posted.

The Parking Magistrate’s Office will be closed Monday, May 29. The 1-866-280-9988 number will not be staffed for the holiday, and disputes or payments by phone will not be available on Monday, May 29. Parking citation disputes can still be initiated online at the website and citations may also be paid online. To reach the Parking Magistrate:

  • Dispute a parking ticket online at denvergov.org/parking.
  • Contact the parking magistrate on non-holidays by phone at 1-866-280-9988, Monday – Friday between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm.
RECREATION CENTERS

All Denver Recreation Centers will be closed Monday, May 29.

TAXPAYER SERVICE CENTER

The Taxpayer Service Center will be closed Monday, May 29. Online and mail transactions remain available seven days a week. Online services are available for:

  • Excise tax transactions (Sales, Use, Lodgers, OPT, TBT, E911, TID) including account registration, tax return filing, and tax return payments at denvergov.org/ebiztax.
  • Real estate property taxes or business personal property tax payments can also be made at denvergov.org/property.

TRASH, RECYCLING & COMPOST COLLECTION

Trash, recycling and composting will not be collected on Monday, May 29. Trash, recycling and composting services will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

VEHICLE IMPOUND FACILITY

The Vehicle Impound Facility, 5160 York St., will be closed on Monday, May 29.

VITAL RECORDS (BIRTH & DEATH CERTIFICATES)

The Denver Vital Records office will be closed on Monday, May 29. Orders for birth and death certificates may be placed online.

WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT

The Wastewater Management Building, 2000 W. 3rd Ave., will be closed Monday, May 29.

WORKFORCE CENTERS

All Denver Workforce Centers will be closed Monday, May 29. Call 720-337-WORK. The city’s online hiring system will be available at denvergov.org/jobs. For online resources for jobseekers, visit denvergov.org/workforce.
