Centennial Office Closure on December 22, 2022

In light of the forecasted extreme dip in weather temperatures and wind chill, the City of Centennial’s offices and municipal court will be closed for in-person services tomorrow, December 22. The City’s Citizen Response Center (303-325-8000) and online services will remain available. These services also will remain available on Monday, December 26, and Monday, January 2, when the City’s offices and court will be closed to observe the Christmas and New Year’s Day federal holidays.

Extremely low temperatures could be life-threatening and impact water lines and vehicle performance. Following is helpful information to keep in mind:

  • Click here to find local warming centers and shelters, updated in real time.
  • Frostbite can start in as little as five minutes. Older adults can lose body heat at accelerated rates. Bundle up and limit exposure to the elements.
  • Bring pets inside and protect your animals by providing adequate shelter.
  • Know the location of your water shut-off valve in case of a water line break. Start a slow drip on a faucet farthest from where water enters your home, and open cabinet doors to allow pipes to be exposed and warmed by household air.
  • If travel is a must, consider assembling a winter survival kit with items such as extra blankets and emergency markers, and gas up or plug in your vehicle. Ensure that tires are fully inflated according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Wet, heavy snow is more likely than extreme cold to cause electric outages, however Xcel Energy is putting operations plans in place to ensure that crews are ready to safely restore electric service to customers as quickly as possible if weather impacts their service. If you suspect a natural gas leak, evacuate immediately, moving a safe distance away, and call 911. Xcel Energy’s Residential Customer Service line is 800-895-4999.
