The Denver City Council recently approved a moratorium halting development on five mobile home parks in the city.

In a recent Tweet, District 3 Councilwoman Jamie Torres shared a Denverite.com report that noted the moratorium would prohibit the proposal of site development plans at the five parks until April 2024.

“Our moratorium banning development of Denver’s 5 mobile home parks was approved by Council tonight,” Torres said in the post on social media. “Next is a change to the zoning code to allow replacing an old home with a new one.”

According to the Denverite report, the ban aims to preserve mobile home parks in the city. After being approved by the Land Use, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, according to the report, the council’s adoption means city officials can develop regulations for the mobile home parks.

This is the second time the council has considered this measure, according to Westword, which noted Denver City Council members Candi CdeBaca, District 9, and Jolon Clark, District 7, backed a plan to change the city’s zoning code to allow people living in mobile home parks to upgrade their homes with safer models.

KDVR reported in August that each of the city’s five mobile home parks have individual zoning and all are under different designations and the new law would give the city an opportunity to form a mobile home district or develop zoning regulations for all of them.
