In late September, news outlets looked more closely at Leslie Herod's simultaneous campaigns for two different offices at two different levels of government.

Herod entered the Denver Mayoral race in early September.

“I think we have the opportunity to continue to grow and go in the right direction, but we’re also at a point that we could go in the wrong direction,” says Herod during an interview with 9News. “What I think Denver needs is real leadership that will steer us in the right direction but also involves community in that conversation.”

She is currently serving as a Denver State Representative and is on the ballot for that race. She did not withdraw when she announced her candidacy for Denver Mayor. The Denverite notes that "Denver has an ordinance that addresses multiple campaigns, 15-32(b), “A candidate shall have only one (1) candidate committee.” But it’s not clear if that applies to a candidate that has a state committee and a municipal committee. “We looked into this question and determined that we are in compliance with the law,” Herod said in an emailed statement Thursday morning after this story was published. “I have always put people over politics, and I will continue to do so as a candidate for mayor.”

Herod represents District 8. She is the Chair of the Appropriations Committee and also serves on the Joint Budget Committee.
