A Wheat Ridge resident has come out in support of Tim Reichert, who's running in the upcoming Republican primary to represent Colorado's 7th Congressional District.

Steve Whitney, a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima in Wheat Ridge, told Denver City Wire that Reichert's values are what earned him his vote.

"I've known Tim Reichert for more than 20 years," Whitney said. "He is a man of faith, wisdom, compassion and common sense. All very rare in today's political culture. He will have my support and vote."

Reichert is among three candidates seeking the Republican nomination in the 7th District. Reichert is a businessman and economist with a "middle class restoration plan" aimed at fixing issues with the economy, Reichert's website said. He supports simplifying regulations for small businesses and reinstating fair trade laws to give small businesses a shot at competing with larger corporations. He said his plan would make entrepreneurship and owning a business easier for "the little guy." He also wants to find a way to put a stop to record inflation, calling it "the cruelest tax of all," especially on low- and middle-income Americans.

Colorado's 7th District lines were redrawn after the 2020 census, Ballotpedia reported. Reichert is running against Erik Aadland and Laurel Imer in the Republican primary on June 28.

The 7th District seat has historically been held by a Democrat, but with the new map, the race has become more competitive, Colorado Public Radio reported. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), who currently represents the district, isn't seeking another term. CPR said Reichert as a candidate appeals to the middle class, based on his plans for the economy that scored him a number of endorsements from business owners.
