COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force junior Nick Vroman has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while New Mexico’s Nikolay Sysoev was tabbed the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week. 

Fresno State senior Pang Jittakoat has earned MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, while teammate Mariya Vyshkina has been awarded MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week honors.  

 

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NICK VROMAN, AIR FORCE

Junior, Sudbury, Massachusetts/ Lincoln-Sudbury Regional 

  • Posted a 2-0 week, competing in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions in a Falcons 4-3 victory over Denver.  
  • Defeated Nicolas Cuesta in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) in singles.
  • In the No. 1 doubles position, he teamed up with Justin Waldman to beat Nicolas Cuesta and Daniel Sancho Arbizu 6-4. 
  • The first Air Force player to win both No. 1 singles and doubles against Denver since 2005.

MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

NIKOLAY SYSOEV, NEW MEXICO

Russia

  • Logged a 1-0 week in the No. 2 singles position, giving the Lobos a 3-1 lead over New Mexico State.
  • Won his first match in the No. 2 position over New Mexico State’s Jordy Visser in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PANG JITTAKOAT, FRESNO STATE

Senior, Bangkok, Thailand

  • Went 3-0 in the No. 1 singles position on the week, taking down top singles players from Arizona, Florida Atlantic, and Northern Arizona. 
  • Logged a 2-1 week in the No. 1 doubles flight, posting 6-0 scores over Arizona and Northern Arizona with teammate Matilde Magrini.  
  • Defeated Arizona’s Salma Ziouti in the No. 1 singles spot 6-2, 6-4.
  • Also posted a straight sets win over Northern Arizona’s Sofia Markova in, 6-2, 6-4.
  • Posted a third straight set win against Florida Atlantic’s Katerina Filip, 6-1, 6-3.
WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

MARIYA VYSHKINA, FRESNO STATE

Kharkiv, Ukraine

  • Went 2-1 at No. 2 doubles with partner Meshkatolzahra Safi, including a 7-5 win over Northern Arizona and a 6-2 victory against Florida Atlantic.
  • Earned a straight set victory against Florida Atlantic’s Carla Galmiche, 6-3, 6-4.
