University of Denver scholarship honors 2004 graduate Ryan Campbell

A University of Denver alumni who died in 2006 has a lasting legacy at the school he attended with the Ryan Campbell Taylor Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund, which has served as an educational lifeline DU students since its inception after his death.

The University of Denver, in a Dec. 16 Tweet, shared the legacy of Ryan Campbell Taylor, a 2004 graduate who died in 2006.

"The Ryan Campbell Taylor Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund has been a source of hope for more than 25 DU students since its inception in 2006,” the university said in the tweet.

The university noted on its website that the scholarship fund was created in 2006 by Taylor’s father, Vernon Taylor, and stepfather, Ralph Tingle, as the Ryan Campbell Taylor Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund.

According to the university, the fund was started with the seed of an endowed gift of $50,000 that has grown and is now valued at more than $1.6 million, in large part due to the generosity of

Taylor and Tingle, and ongoing contributions from others seeking to honor their son’s memory.

The university noted that it awards scholarships to one or more students form the Rocky Mountain region each year, with preference given to students from Colorado and New Mexico, which were very important places to Taylor.

Moreover, the university noted that scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and financial need.
