The Colorado Secretary of State's Office has learned that roughly 30,000 postcard mailers were delivered to ineligible Coloradans.
The state underlines that anyone who is not a U.S. citizen attempting to register to vote would be denied by Colorado's online voter registration system.
“The Department has become aware that approximately 30,000 EBU [Eligible But Unregistered] postcard mailers were incorrectly sent to ineligible Coloradans,” a spokesperson for the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office said, according to Colorado Public Radio. “The office is undertaking an internal review of the incident and will take any corrective action that is warranted.”
According to The Daily Sentinel, every eligible voter will be sent a ballot in the mail in advance of the election on Nov. 8. Qualified residents of the state are automatically registered when they visit the Department of Motor Vehicles or other state offices, but if they haven't done so already, they can do so between Oct. 24 and Nov. 8 at their local polling station or online.
This mix-up in the mailing of the postcards comes after state and local election authorities have dispelled rumors of widespread voter fraud. The Denver Post reports that many Coloradans have seen an increase in the number of "bad-faith poll watchers and election judges around the state."
There's always the question of "Every day you wonder ‘What fresh hell is today going to bring?’" Lori Mitchell, clerk of Chaffee County, Colorado said. “These things are coming out of nowhere and you’re just trying to do the best you can.”
