Mashed: 'The Centennial State's La Loteria Taqueria gives hungry Coloradoans a traditional taste of Tex-Mex'

A Mexican restaurant in Denver is judged to have the best nachos in Colorado.

The Denver-based Mexican restaurant "La Loteria Taqueria" took the top spot in the state of Colorado on Mashed's list of "The Absolute Best Nachos in Every State."

"The Centennial State's La Loteria Taqueria gives hungry Coloradoans a traditional taste of Tex-Mex thanks to its bevy of classic dishes, including nachos," Mashed's review stated. "According to iHeart, La Loteria Taqueria's nachos are the stuff of legends, packed with a laundry list of customizable ingredients and served on crisp chips."

Mashed, which ranked the nacho establishments based on reviews left on sites like Trip Advisor, local publications, ESPN, FourSquare, and Eater, among other sources added that La Loteria Taqueria diners can make their own nacho experience by starting with chicken, beef, or shrimp and then spicing things up with jalapenos and pico de gallo. Customers can also load up their plates with extra cheese and sour cream, according to their liking.

According to its website, “La Loteria serves up fresh, authentic Mexican fare, blending Chef/Owner Edgar Silvestre’s specialties with his mom’s recipes that have been handed down through generations. Named after a popular Mexican card game that Edgar grew up regularly playing with his large, extended family, La Loteria pays homage to culture and cuisine steeped in tradition.”

The restaurant started as a family-owned food truck journeying all over Denver until it found a permanent home on South Broadway.

La Loteria is open from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sundays, 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Their Solo Nachos are sold at $10 and can be topped with chicken, carne asada, or Camarones in addition to three types of cheese, pickled jalapenos, pico de gallo, sour cream, pinto beans, and guacamole.

Westword has its own ranking of Denver's 10 best nachos in case Mashed's suggestion isn't enough or you want to try other nacho places. Places to eat and drink include El Camino, The Fainting Goat, Tacos Jalisco Mexican Food, The Pioneer, Lola, Racines, Southern Sun Brewery, Mountain Sun Pub, The Vine Street Pub, Blake Street Tavern and Billy's Inn.
