Heidi Ganahl's gubernatorial campaign has announced the launch of its Latino Coalition. According to a press release, the coalition is comprised of community and faith leaders, parents and business owners who support Ganahl.
“I support Heidi and Danny (Moore) because they have good moral values and they listen to everyone,” Carlos Calandreli, president of Worldwide Christian Chaplains, said in the release. Worldwide Christian Chaplains is a group of more than 1,400 volunteer chaplains who pray for and support their communities, according to their Facebook page.
“They want to support those who have nothing,” Calandreli said. “They are a voice for immigrants in the state of Colorado.”
The Coalition shares Ganahl's concerns over the rising cost of living in Colorado, as well as the surge of crime in the state. Jacqueline Bouvier, a leader is the state's Hispanic and faith communities, is chairing the coalition, the release says.
Approximately 22% of the population of Colorado is Hispanic or Latino, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Ganahl has been endorsed by many community leaders, elected officials, and law enforcement officers. She has received the endorsements of former Gov. Bill Owens; Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers; Weld County Sheriff Steve Reams; Maralee Mclean, the executive director of Moms Fight Back; and State Sen. Cleave Simpson.
Ganahl defeated Greg Lopez in the Republican primary in June. She will challenge incumbent Gov. Jared Polis (D) in the November general election.
