Rep. Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 1997, recently posted a series of statements on social media highlighting local and international events relevant to her constituents.
On October 21, 2025, DeGette acknowledged the centennial celebration of Colorado Legal Services (CLS), stating: “Great to join Colorado Legal Services last night and celebrate 100 years of CLS’s high-quality civil legal assistance to those who need it most. Colorado is stronger thanks to the tireless dedication of CLS staff, volunteers, and supporters.”
Later that day, she commented on a significant political development in Japan: “Japan’s historic election of its first woman Prime Minister has a special Colorado connection – Sanae Takaichi was a former intern of my predecessor Rep. Pat Schroeder, who was a champion for women & families throughout her career. As co-chair of the Congressional Study Group on”
In another post on October 21, DeGette addressed concerns regarding federal job cuts resulting from a government shutdown: “Trump is using the shutdown to decimate the federal government & leave hardworking Americans without jobs. In Colorado alone, nearly 200 Interior jobs will be cut, putting our public lands and the people who protect them at risk. When will he stop treating public servants like”
DeGette succeeded Pat Schroeder in Congress after Schroeder’s long tenure as an advocate for women and families.[1] She has served continuously since 1997 following an earlier term in the Colorado House of Representatives.[2] Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957,[3] DeGette currently resides in Denver and holds degrees from Colorado College and New York University School of Law.[4]
