Rep. Diana DeGette, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Colorado’s 1st district since 1997, recently shared her views on social media regarding a significant policy decision by the Trump administration. Her statements address the implications of freezing federal funding and the subsequent legal actions.

On January 28, 2025, Rep. DeGette posted a statement on Twitter following the Trump administration’s decision to freeze virtually all federal funding. She provided a link for further details: “Read my statement after the Trump administration froze virtually all federal funding https://t.co/aemhOon1CO”.

The following day, January 29, 2025, she commented on the repercussions of this action, stating that it caused chaos by bypassing Congress’ financial authority. She expressed approval of a U.S. District Court’s ruling to halt this freeze but emphasized that a permanent solution is necessary: “Trump’s action to pause most federal funding plunged our communities in chaos by illegally circumventing Congress’ power of the purse. The decision by the US District Court to suspend this action is the correct step to keep our communities whole, but it must be made permanent.”

Later that day, she criticized the initial implementation of the freeze and attributed confusion and harm across America to what she described as a strategy of chaos from the Trump administration: “The administration never should have issued this freeze in the first place. The Trump strategy is chaos and confusion, and it is harming every American.”
