U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district in Congress since 1997, criticized former President Donald Trump’s policies in a series of tweets published between May 11 and May 12, 2026.
Continuing her criticism on May 12, she wrote, “After increasing military spending to historic highs, Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth want nearly $500 billion more. Last year, Republicans claimed we didn’t have enough money to extend ACA tax credits. Now, people are losing their health care because they can’t afford premiums.”
Later that same day, DeGette added another statement: “Donald Trump doesn’t care that you can’t afford gas, groceries, and health care as long as he gets his war.”
Diana DeGette has served continuously in Congress since replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997 and previously held office in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. She was born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957 and currently resides in Denver at age 65. DeGette holds a BA from Colorado College (1979) and a JD from New York University (1982).
