Rep. Diana DeGette, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Colorado’s 1st district since 1997, has used her social media platform to criticize recent Republican policies regarding health care, drug pricing, and government funding.
On September 30, 2025, DeGette addressed the Trump administration’s approach to prescription drug policy, stating: “TrumpRx isn’t a solution, it’s a distraction. Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act, which allowed Medicare to negotiate drug prices for the first time, while Trump is gutting NIH and the National Cancer Institute. This will kill innovation while most Americans won’t pay”.
Later that day, she commented on Republican tax policy with another post: “Republicans: Extending tax breaks for billionaires that are already in law is actually free. Also Republicans: Extending tax credits to keep health care costs down for middle-class Americans that are already in law is too expensive.”
On October 1, 2025, DeGette discussed government funding negotiations and their impact on health care costs: “I came to Washington, ready to fund the government & protect your health care. House Republicans never showed up, shutting down the government & putting 22 million Americans at risk of crushing premium hikes. As Americans face crushing health care costs, it’s because the GOP”.
DeGette has served in Congress since replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997 and previously held office in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. She was born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957 and currently resides in Denver. Her educational background includes a BA from Colorado College (1979) and a JD from New York University (1982).
