U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who serves Colorado’s 1st district in Congress, recently addressed several national and international issues through a series of posts on her official social media account. The topics ranged from health care policy to reactions to violent attacks both abroad and domestically.
On December 13, 2025, DeGette criticized a new health care proposal introduced by House Republicans, writing: “House Republicans just unveiled their so-called “health care plan,” which is nothing but a collection of failed policies hastily strung together in order to hide the fact that they are solely responsible for premiums that are going to double in the new year. The American people”.
The following day, December 14, DeGette responded to reports of violence targeting the Jewish community overseas. She stated: “I am horrified by this morning’s antisemitic attack against the Jewish community in Sydney. Hate has no place in our society, here or abroad, and we must condemn it wherever it appears. I’m praying for the victims’ families and expect the perpetrators to be held accountable.”
Later on December 14, DeGette commented on a recent shooting incident at Brown University: “Yesterday’s attack at Brown claimed two lives, with eight students still fighting for theirs. I am praying for them and their families, and grateful for the officers who responded swiftly to stop the shooter. This epidemic of gun violence in our schools must end—enough is enough.”
Diana DeGette has represented Colorado’s 1st District in Congress since 1997 after serving four years in the Colorado House of Representatives. She succeeded Pat Schroeder as U.S. Representative for her district and has resided in Denver since beginning her tenure. Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957, DeGette earned a BA from Colorado College and later received her JD from New York University.
