Matthews scores late winner for Toronto as NLL Week 8 highlights former Denver players

University of Denver men’s lacrosse alumnus Mark Matthews played a key role in Toronto’s 11-10 victory over Rochester on Saturday night, scoring his second goal of the game with less than a minute remaining. Matthews finished the match with five points, leading the Rock to the win.

In other National Lacrosse League (NLL) Week 8 action, Jack Hannah continued his strong performance for Colorado by scoring two goals and providing three assists in the Mammoth’s 11-6 win against Halifax. Noah Manning and Tyler Pace combined for seven points in Calgary’s loss to Georgia.

San Diego returned to winning form on Friday. Trevor Baptiste won 19 out of 24 faceoffs and collected nine loose balls. Danny Logan contributed both offensively and defensively, recording a goal, an assist, and forcing two turnovers. Wes Berg added three assists as San Diego defeated Vancouver 11-9.

Oshawa received nine points from Alex Simmons and Ethan Walker in their loss at Saskatchewan.

The NLL Week 9 schedule includes games broadcast on ESPN+. San Diego will play Philadelphia on Friday, January 23 at 5 p.m. MT. On Saturday, January 24, Georgia faces Toronto at 5 p.m. MT while Oshawa meets Colorado at 7 p.m. MT.
