U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district in Congress since 1997, used her social media platform this week to comment on national political developments and call for legislative action.
On November 5, DeGette posted about recent efforts by various groups to oppose former President Donald Trump’s policies, writing, “Since January, we’ve pushed back against Trump through our courts, citizens, & Congress. Courts are blocking his abuses. Last night, citizens showed up. Now, Congress must act. It’s time for Congressional Republicans to help us reopen the government and lower health care”.
The following day, she praised a prominent Democratic leader in another post dated November 6: “Nancy Pelosi is the greatest speaker in the history of our country. Read my full statement on Speaker Emerita Pelosi.”
Later that same day, DeGette criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson’s approach to health care policy: “Mike Johnson is clearly content with letting health care costs skyrocket for millions of Americans. It’s hard to negotiate a deal with someone who puts billionaires and Donald Trump over hardworking families.”
DeGette has served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997 and previously served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. She was born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957 and currently resides in Denver. DeGette earned her undergraduate degree from Colorado College and received her law degree from New York University.
