U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district in Congress since 1997, shared a series of posts on January 19 and 20, 2026, reflecting on her participation in local events honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On January 19, DeGette recounted an interfaith service held at a Denver church where Dr. King once preached: “Last night, we honored Dr. King during an inter-faith service at a church where Dr. King himself once preached while visiting Denver many years ago. It was a powerful and uplifting service organized by the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance. Dr. King’s legacy, as reflected” (posted January 19, 2026).
Later that day, she described her experience singing with the MLK Community Choir: “Last night was particularly special for me. Singing in the MLK Community Choir alongside so many neighbors and friends reminded me what Dr. King taught us: community is built when we lift our voices together. Grateful for the music, the fellowship, and the call to keep working” (posted January 19, 2026).
On January 20, DeGette participated in Denver’s annual “Marade,” a march and parade commemorating Dr. King’s legacy: “Earlier today, I was proud to honor Dr. King in a distinctly Denver way at the Marade.
We marched arm-in-arm to celebrate hard-fought victories and to recommit ourselves to confronting injustice wherever it appears—peacefully, boldly, and together without backing down.” (posted January 20, 2026).
Diana DeGette has served Colorado’s 1st District in Congress since succeeding Pat Schroeder in 1997; prior to that she was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957 and currently residing in Denver at age 65, DeGette holds degrees from Colorado College (BA) and New York University School of Law (JD). Her longstanding involvement with Denver’s civic life reflects both her personal connection to the city and her ongoing commitment to issues of social justice.
