U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has served Colorado’s 1st district since 1997, used her social media platform to criticize recent changes in federal vaccine policy and to reflect on the anniversary of the January 6 Capitol attack.
On January 5, 2026, DeGette posted a statement condemning new vaccine guidelines introduced by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his associates: “This reckless change in the vaccine schedule by RFK Jr. and his hand-picked team of anti-vaxxers is a direct attack on the health of every American. It abandons decades of rigorous evidence and concern for the health and wellbeing of American families.

She followed up with another post expressing concern about staffing changes within the administration: “The next preventable illness will stay incurable because this administration fired the scientists and installed the conspiracy theorists instead.” (January 5, 2026).
On January 6, DeGette marked the fifth anniversary of the Capitol riot with a personal recollection: “Five years ago today, Donald Trump incited a violent mob to storm the Capitol in an attempt to overturn a free and fair election — the most brazen attack on our own government by a sitting president in American history.
I was in the House gallery that day, and I will never https://t.co/loUsN5MjOX” (January 6, 2026).
DeGette’s remarks come as she continues her long tenure in Congress after replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997. She previously served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957, DeGette resides in Denver. She holds degrees from Colorado College and New York University School of Law.
