U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has served Colorado’s 1st district in Congress since 1997, recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing economic inequality, environmental accountability, and federal law enforcement practices.
On January 20, 2026, DeGette wrote: “In Trump’s first year, families spent over $1,600 more on daily necessities while Trump’s family got $1.4 billion richer. Donald Trump’s priority isn’t making life more affordable for you and your family, it’s exploiting the presidency to enrich himself and his allies.”
The following day, January 21, she commented on the oil industry: “An oil refinery boasted about their ‘record-breaking year’—860,000 barrels a day, $1.2 billion in profit. They don’t need a handout to pollute. They need to be held accountable for harming communities. Families should not have to choose between their health and their home to”.
Later that same day, DeGette addressed concerns regarding federal immigration enforcement: “ICE should be dismantled immediately. I will not support funding for the Department of Homeland Security when ICE and Border Patrol agents are assaulting protestors, detaining and arresting people with impunity, inciting violence, and shooting and killing American citizens.”
DeGette has represented Colorado’s 1st District in Congress since replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957 and currently residing in Denver at age 65, DeGette holds a BA from Colorado College (1979) and a JD from New York University (1982).
