U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district in Congress since 1997, used her social media platform this week to criticize Republican leadership and former President Donald Trump for rising health care costs and recent political events.
Later that day, she commented on former President Trump’s activities during a government shutdown: “Let’s recap this week: Trump flees the country to Asia while the government is shutdown. He gets a crown, bows down to Xi Jinping and then comes back to Washington to post pictures of his new bathroom and check on the Kennedy Center renovations before retiring to his private”.
On November 3, DeGette addressed health care premiums again: “FACT: Under a Republican-led House, Senate, and White House, health care premiums are doubling for hundreds of thousands of Coloradans, and they are skyrocketing for millions of other Americans. Speaker Johnson and Donald Trump have NO plan, except to make health care more https://t.co/vVs5wtONhl”.
DeGette’s comments come as open enrollment begins for health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a period when many Americans review or change their coverage options. She has advocated for extending ACA tax credits as a way to reduce premium costs.
DeGette was born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957 and currently resides in Denver. Before joining Congress in 1997—succeeding Pat Schroeder—she served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. She holds a BA from Colorado College (1979) and a JD from New York University (1982).
