U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district since 1997, posted a series of statements on social media criticizing recent legislative developments in Congress related to health care policy and military support.
On December 10, 2025, DeGette addressed the issue of ACA tax credits and the impact on Colorado residents. She wrote, “The Crapo/Cassidy proposal doesn’t even extend the ACA tax credits, leaving thousands of Coloradans to suffer with premiums that now cost twice as much. This is nothing more than a smokescreen for Republicans to hide behind as they reject Democrats’ proposal to simply extend the” (December 10, 2025).
Later that day, DeGette commented on a bipartisan agreement regarding fertility care for military personnel within the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). She stated, “Americans need to know: a bipartisan deal to protect fertility care for our troops in NDAA was ready to go — and overnight, the Speaker torpedoed it. Denying service members the care they need to build a family isn’t ‘pro-family’ or ‘pro-freedom.’ It’s control, plain and simple.” (December 10, 2025).
On December 11, DeGette explained her vote against the NDAA due to provisions involving U.S. weapons sales. She wrote, “I have been saying for months that I would not support additional offensive weapon sales to Israel that could be used against innocent Palestinians. That’s why I voted against the NDAA today. This bill contains provisions that force the United States to provide further weapons,” (December 11, 2025).
DeGette has served in Congress since replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997 after previously serving in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957 and currently residing in Denver at age 65, she holds degrees from Colorado College and New York University School of Law.
