U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district in Congress since 1997, posted a series of tweets on January 12 and 13, 2026, criticizing current energy policies and the actions of House Republicans.
On January 12, DeGette wrote: “Reopening broken coal plants doesn’t lower energy bills—it raises them. This administration is doing everything it can to increase costs for Coloradans and punish our state.
I led a letter last year urging the EPA to reverse course and leave Colorado alone, and I will continue”.
The following day, she commented on the federal approach to renewable energy: “Republicans claim to support an “all-of-the-above” approach to energy dominance, but are actively undercutting renewable energy sources.
The administration renamed the National Renewable Energy Lab to the National Lab of the Rockies because they want to erase the importance of https://t.co/v3zO9Q2aRV” (January 13).
Later that same day, DeGette criticized both former President Trump’s foreign policy actions and domestic legislative priorities: “While Trump is taking over Venezuela and ICE is shooting American citizens, costs are skyrocketing and House Republicans are voting on a bill to police showerheads.
Their complete capitulation to this administration is unacceptable as they refuse to conduct any oversight while” (January 13).
DeGette has served in Congress since replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997. Before her tenure in Washington D.C., she was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 through 1997. Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957, DeGette currently resides in Denver. She holds a BA from Colorado College (1979) and earned her JD from New York University in 1982.
