U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district in Congress since 1997, recently commented on several national and international issues through her official Twitter account.
On October 13, 2025, DeGette addressed developments in the Middle East, stating, “The release of the remaining hostages and prisoners is welcome news as we work towards an end of the conflict in the Middle East. Now, there must be a massive surge of humanitarian aid into Gaza and a coordinated effort to rebuild. The ultimate goal is peace and freedom for both”.
The following day, DeGette responded to reports regarding political activity at federal security checkpoints, writing on October 14, “Good on DIA for saying NO to Trump and Secretary Noem’s extreme partisan video. Using security checkpoints to score political points is illegal and has no place in our federal agencies.”
Later that same day, she criticized former President Donald Trump’s actions during a government shutdown, posting on October 14, “Donald Trump is using the shutdown as an excuse to destroy the nation’s premier public health agency. Don’t be fooled – Republicans control the House, Senate and White House, and gutting public health was their plan all along. Congress must assert its Constitutional authority”.
DeGette has served in Congress since replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997. Prior to her tenure in Washington, she served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957, DeGette resides in Denver. She earned her undergraduate degree from Colorado College in 1979 and a law degree from New York University in 1982.
