The following morning she extended greetings to her community: “Happy New Year! Through this year’s ups and downs, I’m always grateful to represent our Denver community in Congress. In 2026, here’s to continuing to care for each other and making progress on our shared values.” (January 1, 2026).
Two days later, DeGette acknowledged emergency responders after a significant incident in Denver: “Grateful for the brave firefighters in Denver and the surrounding area who battled a five-alarm fire last night at Leetsdale Drive and Forest Street. Praying for the injured firefighter and their family, and I’m also thankful for the swift community response from nonprofit” (January 3, 2026).
DeGette has served as U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 1st district since succeeding Pat Schroeder in 1997.
