U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, who has represented Colorado’s 1st district in Congress since 1997, posted a series of statements on her social media account at the end of December 2025 regarding the deaths of prominent public figures and an impending change to health insurance tax credits.
On December 30, DeGette expressed condolences over the loss of Tatiana Schlossberg: “I am heartbroken to learn of Tatiana Schlossberg’s passing this morning. We lost someone who cared deeply about this planet and who used her voice to try to make the world safer for the people she loved. My heart goes out to her mother, Caroline, a devoted public servant; her” (December 30, 2025).
The following day, DeGette noted the passing of former Colorado Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell: “Saddened to learn of the passing of former CO Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell. Senator Nighthorse Campbell was a strong advocate for Colorado and served as one of the few Native Americans in the history of our Congress. He was truly one of a kind, and I am thinking of his family” (December 31, 2025).
Later that same day, DeGette commented on changes affecting health care coverage due to expiring ACA tax credits: “At midnight tonight, ACA tax credits expire because Trump & Congressional Republicans refused to act. Millions of Americans will wake up tomorrow with doubled premiums and some will wake up without health insurance for the first time in years. In 2026, I will continue fighting” (December 31, 2025).
DeGette has served in Congress representing Denver and surrounding areas since replacing Pat Schroeder in 1997 and previously served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 until her election to Congress. Born in Tachikawa, Japan in 1957 and currently residing in Denver, she holds degrees from Colorado College and New York University School of Law.
