Graduate student Sara Rask and senior Mia Hunt led the University of Denver skiers at the RMISA Alpine Qualifier slalom held Thursday at Bridger Bowl Ski Area in Bozeman, Montana. Rask secured her 20th career victory and seventh win this season, while Hunt moved from seventh place after the first run to finish second overall in the women’s event. Hunt’s performance was highlighted by recording the third-fastest time in the second run, finishing with a total time of 1:42.99—eight-tenths of a second behind Rask’s 1:42.19.
Hunt’s runner-up finish matches her previous career best from an earlier slalom event this season and marks her third podium appearance overall. She has finished on the podium in three out of four slalom races she entered this year.
Freshman Cecilia Pizzinato finished seventh, marking her tenth consecutive top-10 result during her rookie season and tying her best slalom placement for the fourth time. Sophomore Stella Buchheister took ninth place, achieving her fourth top-10 finish of the year.
Seniors Nicola Rountree-Williams and Josephine Trueblood placed 14th and 15th respectively; for Trueblood, it was her seventh career top-15 result and fifth this season.
In men’s competition, senior Adrian Minde Hunshammer climbed from 16th after his first run to finish tenth overall—his eighth top-10 result this season and twelfth in his collegiate career. Freshman Caman Beauregard improved nine places during his afternoon descent to end up twelfth.
Other results for Denver included graduate student Eirik Kveno placing nineteenth and senior Thomas Hoffman twenty-first. Elisabeth Creighton did not finish on the women’s side during run one, while Christian Soevik did not complete his second run among men.
The men’s race was won by Johs Herland from Utah; Filip Wahlqvist (Colorado) placed second, with Westminster teammates Benjamin Angerer and Alejandro Puente Tasias finishing third and fourth respectively.
No team scores were recorded as Thursday’s event served as an additional qualifying opportunity for athletes ahead of the NCAA Championships. The postseason begins Friday with both alpine slalom at Bridger Bowl Ski Area and Nordic events at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, Utah. The conference meet will conclude Saturday with alpine giant slalom races alongside a Nordic freestyle mass start event.
