The University of Denver women’s tennis team is set to host two in-state rivals, Air Force and Colorado State, in dual matches on February 6 and 7. The matches will take place at the Denver Tennis Park, with Air Force visiting on Friday at 1 p.m. MT and Colorado State following on Sunday at 4 p.m. MT. Admission and parking for all home matches are free.
Denver enters these contests after starting its dual season with a perfect 3-0 record. The team recently secured a 7-0 sweep over Miami (OH) and followed up with a 4-2 comeback victory against Colorado last weekend.
In the match against Miami (OH), Denver lost only two games in doubles play before taking five singles wins in straight sets. Senior Louise Wikander, now ranked No. 125 nationally, led the team by dropping just two games at the No. 1 singles spot. Freshman Yunfei Cai also performed strongly, losing only one more game than Wikander. Seniors Marley Lambert and Zoe Adkins, along with sophomore Natálie Cinková, won their singles matches in straight sets as well. Freshman Ruby Hansen secured her win after a second-set tiebreak forced a deciding set before her opponent retired due to injury.
Against Colorado, Denver overcame an early deficit after losing the doubles point but rallied for a 4-2 win. Wikander again delivered the first singles point with another straight-set victory. After Colorado took the No. 3 singles match to lead 2-1, Cinková tied it up with a win at No. 4 singles. Senior Hana Bečirovič Novak gave Denver its first lead of the day by winning at No. 5 singles in straight sets, while freshman Yunfei Cai clinched the overall victory by coming back from a set down at No. 6 singles.
Looking ahead to their upcoming opponents, Denver leads Air Force in NCAA Division I dual match play with a record of 13-2 and has won their last twelve meetings—most recently securing a 5-0 home win on January 20, 2024. Against Colorado State, Denver holds a dominant record of 15-3 and has won each of their last fifteen encounters.
After this weekend’s home matches, Denver will begin its road schedule with duals against BYU on February 14 and Utah on February 15.
