Denver Seeks Public Input on Travel and Safety Improvements in the University Neighborhood Area
DENVER, CO – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is finalizing design on two projects in the University neighborhood area that will improve safety and travel for all, including people who walk, bike, drive and access transit via the RTD Colorado Station. DOTI is planning safety and operational improvements along Buchtel Boulevard from University Boulevard to Colorado Boulevard and at the University and Colorado Boulevard intersections with Evans Avenue (see map below with these specific projects indicated by a solid blue line and intersection symbols). The public can learn more about this work and provide feedback through July 6 at BuchtelEvansIntersectionImprovements.com.
“The community is excited about the planned improvements that will help them more safely travel through the area and access transit,” said Denver District 4 City Council Representative Kendra Black.
Final design concepts residents will explore in the self-guided meeting reflect goals identified in previous planning and community engagement efforts, focusing on safety, mobility and health. The final design concepts include:
- Bicycle and pedestrian facility improvements
- Safer intersections and crossings
- Improved signage and lane markings
- Traffic signal infrastructure upgrades
“I look forward to this important community process and encourage residents to participate,” said Denver District 6 City Council Representative Paul Kashmann. “These heavily-used roadways and critical intersections have long begged for mobility and safety improvements and, finally, their time has come.”
