University of Denver gymnast Megan Aamold has been named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week for the fourth week of the season, according to an announcement from the conference on Tuesday.

Aamold, a freshman, competed in her third beam routine for Denver since returning from a season-ending injury in 2024. She achieved a personal-best score of 9.875 during the February 1 meet against Iowa State. This performance secured her first collegiate title and matched the second highest beam score by a Denver gymnast this year.

Her contribution helped Denver secure a 196.525 win over Iowa State in its Big 12 Conference home opener, which was just half a tenth below the team’s season high.

This marks Aamold’s first Big 12 Conference award and is also the team’s second weekly conference honor this season. Fellow freshman Shyla Bhatia previously received Newcomer of the Week recognition after competition on January 14.

The University of Denver gymnastics team, currently ranked No. 18 nationally, will continue its Big 12 schedule with an away meet at Arizona State on Saturday, February 7.

Tickets for the remainder of the University of Denver gymnastics season are available online, by phone at 303-871-4625, or at the Ritchie Center Box Office.

“Megan Aamold was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week for the fourth week of the season,” stated the conference release.

“This is Aamold’s first Big 12 Conference award and DU’s second weekly conference award of the season, joining fellow freshman Shyla Bhatia’s Newcomer of the Week nod following the first full week of the season on January 14.”
