Senior Christian Oliveira Soevik from the University of Denver ski team will represent Brazil at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Soevik is one of nine athletes in Brazil’s delegation for the Games, which start on February 6 and end on February 22 in Italy. He is scheduled to compete in the men’s slalom alpine skiing event on February 16 at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, Italy. The first run begins at 2 a.m. MT, with the second run at 5:30 a.m. MT and will be streamed on Peacock.
“I am very happy and excited to represent Brazil in the Olympic Games,” Soevik said. “The games have always been a dream for me, and it is an honor to represent Brazil. I want to thank the [Olympic Committee of Brazil] for this opportunity, and thank you to my family and everyone who believes in me. Let’s give it our all.”
Soevik was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and spent his early years in Montes Claros before moving with his family to Norway when he was four years old.
During his three seasons with Denver Pioneers skiing, Soevik has achieved 15 top-10 finishes out of 33 collegiate races and reached the podium twice. Notably, he finished second in giant slalom at the NCAA West Regional/RMISA Championships in Big Sky, Montana (February 23, 2024), and third in giant slalom at the NCAA Championships two weeks later in Steamboat Springs, Colorado (March 6, 2024). He also placed fourth in slalom at those championships and earned two first-team All-American honors.
In his first season with Denver (2024), Soevik recorded eight top-10s out of twelve events and was named an all-conference honorable mention by RMISA as well as DU alpine team’s most valuable skier.
This season has already seen him achieve five top-10 results through eight alpine events, including three top-10s last week at Mount Rose-Ski Tahoe, Nevada—one being a fourth-place finish in men’s slalom during an RMISA Alpine Qualifier.
Internationally, Soevik has made 39 starts on the FIS Europa Cup circuit with five top-20 finishes. In November last year he finished twentieth in Levi, Finland, and twenty-first in Storklinten, Sweden—both slalom events. As part of FIS Nor-Am Cup competitions since joining Denver for the 2023–24 season he has claimed eight top-10s and four top-five placements.
At the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships held in 2022 while competing for Norway, Soevik took sixth place in alpine combined and tenth place in giant slalom. Before enrolling at Denver University he skied for Kjelsaas IL club.
He is currently studying business analytics at DU where he has been named twice to the National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team (2024 & 2025).
Soevik’s participation continues a tradition; this marks five consecutive Winter Olympics featuring a current University of Denver student-athlete. Previous participants include Katie Hensien (USA) for alpine skiing at Beijing 2022; Andrea Komsic (Croatia) for alpine skiing and Troy Terry (USA) for men’s ice hockey both at Pyeongchang 2018; Trevor Philp (Canada) for alpine skiing at Sochi 2015; Leif Haugen (Norway) racing alpine skiing at Vancouver 2010.
