The University of Denver’s skiing teams are preparing for the 2026 collegiate season with early winter camps and participation in several pre-season races. Both alpine and Nordic squads have been training on snow, with Nordic athletes competing in Alaska and Europe, while the alpine team has held daily sessions at Loveland Ski Area since late October.
Nordic skiers are scheduled to compete in eight races in Alaska before regrouping after the New Year for the U.S. Cross Country National Championships in Lake Placid, New York. The alpine team began its North American Cup events at Copper Mountain and Beaver Creek, with further competition planned at Aspen and Steamboat Springs during the Holiday Classic.
Sophomore Liv Moritz took part in her fifth career FIS World Cup event at Copper Mountain on November 30. The Vail Valley native was close to qualifying for a second run before not finishing late in the race.
The university recently released its 2026 collegiate schedule, which includes 29 events across seven meets and individual qualifiers. Hosting duties for alpine races will be shared between Denver and Colorado, with giant slalom events set for January 12-13 at Eldora Mountain Resort and slalom competitions on January 14-15 at Loveland Ski Area. The DU Invitational’s Nordic races are scheduled for February 7-8 at Maloit Park in Minturn, Colorado. Postseason events will take place in Bozeman, Montana, including both the RMISA Championships from February 26-28 and NCAA Championships from March 11-14.
Denver’s Nordic squad introduced new race suits for the upcoming season. The design features black fabric with crimson and gold trim, mountain graphics on the leggings, and images of local landmarks such as the state capitol building on the sleeves.
The full list of non-collegiate events is available through official university channels. The Pioneers’ first college competition will be a Nordic-only RMISA Invitational on January 4 in Lake Placid during the U.S. Cross Country Nationals. Alpine races begin with Denver and Colorado Invitationals from January 12-15.
