The University of Denver men’s tennis team achieved its first sweep of the season with a 7-0 victory over Montana State at Denver Tennis Park on Sunday.
Denver started strong in doubles, winning both completed matches and dropping only two games. The top duo of senior Ryoma Mishiro and sophomore Samuel Rovai finished their match in 25 minutes, while senior Raffaello Papajcik and freshman Aaron Beduhn secured the point at No. 3 doubles with a 6-2 win. The No. 2 doubles match, featuring graduate student Connor Robb-Wilcox and sophomore Theo Coats, was left unfinished with the pair trailing 3-4.
In singles play, Mishiro earned the first singles point for Denver from the No. 5 position after taking his match in straight sets. Sophomore Theo Coats followed with another straight-set win, putting Denver one point away from clinching the overall victory.
Graduate student Connor Robb-Wilcox secured the decisive point for Denver by winning his singles match in straight sets as well. Sophomore Samuel Rovai claimed his first dual season win at No. 1 singles after rallying to take a tiebreaker in the opening set and closing out the second set by serving out at 5-4.
Freshman Aaron Beduhn contributed to Denver’s lead by coming back from a break down in the third set to claim his first collegiate dual singles win. Raffaello Papajcik closed out the day for Denver with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, giving DU its seventh and final point.
