The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team lost to Georgetown 11-8 in the BIG EAST Semifinal on April 30. The game was played at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium, where Denver led after the first quarter but could not hold off an 8-2 run by Georgetown during the middle quarters.

This result ends Denver’s hopes for a conference title and further advancement in postseason play. The match saw strong performances from both teams, with significant contributions from individual players.

Sophomore Grayson Manning made 13 saves for Denver, surpassing the program’s single-season record with his 188th stop in the fourth quarter. Junior Russell Overly picked up five ground balls, forced two turnovers, scored a goal, and became only the sixth defender in Denver’s Division I era to collect at least 50 ground balls in a season. On offense, Marek Tzagournis contributed two goals and two assists for four points, while Chase Bruno added two goals on three shots.

Georgetown goalie Anderson Moore also recorded 13 saves. Faceoff specialist Ross Prince won 13 of his 19 attempts and collected seven ground balls for Georgetown.

Denver took an early lead but fell behind as Georgetown scored three consecutive goals early in the third quarter and extended their advantage throughout the second half. Despite late efforts from Colin Komenda and Overly, who each scored to narrow the gap late in regulation, it was not enough to overcome Georgetown’s lead.

The defeat concludes Denver’s participation in this year’s BIG EAST tournament.
