The University of Denver gymnastics team is ranked No. 18 in the Week 5 Road to Nationals rankings released on Monday.
Denver nearly matched its season high with a score of 196.525 during its Big 12 Conference home opener against Iowa State on February 1. In that meet, the team achieved season-high scores on bars (49.150) and floor (49.500), with the floor mark being the team’s highest event score so far this season.
In national rankings, Denver holds an average overall score of 196.238, placing it at No. 18 nationally. The team is ranked No. 22 on vault with an average of 48.981, tied for No. 18 on beam with a 49.025 average, and No. 8 on floor with an average of 49.250.
Denver kept its position in the top 20 after increasing its season average by almost a tenth following the February 1 meet. On floor exercise, Denver moved up four spots to re-enter the top ten after raising its event average by nearly three-quarters of a tenth point. The vault team maintained its previous week’s average for a second consecutive week, while bars improved by almost half a tenth and is just over .010 away from entering the top-25 rankings.
Individually, senior Cecilia Cooley is tied for ninth nationally on floor exercise with an average score of 9.919: “For the fourth consecutive week, Cooley holds a top-10 national ranking on floor after landing her third score above 9.900 to start the season.” Junior Maddison Reidenbach is close to breaking into the top-25 on floor, trailing by less than .015 points, while freshman Shyla Bhatia is only .006 away from reaching the top-25 in vault.
The team will continue its Big 12 Conference schedule with their first visit to Arizona State as conference members; that meet will take place Saturday, February 7 at 2 p.m MT.
