Former University of Denver men’s lacrosse head coach Bill Tierney will be honored at the Denver City Lax annual gala on February 18. The event will take place from 6-9 p.m. Mountain Time at the United Club inside Empower Field at Mile High.
Tierney, who is a member of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame, has been named this year’s Champion Circle honoree in recognition of his longstanding support for Denver City Lax since moving to Denver in 2009.
“One of collegiate lacrosse’s legendary coaches, the two-time National Coach of the Year captured his NCAA-record seventh National Championship in 2015 when he led the Pioneers to their first. On that Memorial Day, Tierney became the first coach to win national championships in charge of two different programs,” according to the announcement.
During his 14 seasons with the University of Denver, Tierney recorded a 167-59 overall record and a 69-8 mark in conference play. He concluded his collegiate coaching career with a total record of 439-152.
Tierney continues to live in Denver and is currently coaching professionally during the summer as head coach of the Philadelphia Waterdogs, having completed his second season with them.
Earlier this week, Denver released its 2026 men’s lacrosse schedule, which features eight home games and begins with a matchup against Cleveland State on January 31. Tickets for the upcoming season are available for purchase.
